Couch culture.

Good morning Spaniards!
I hope you all had an amazing time this week and you are full of energy for what is yet to come!

First of all I want to strongly recommend Vaughan, as it´s a really useful method for our purpose.

As a part of this method, I just discover this, wich I think it´s great.
It´s basically two people (AN Spanish advance student of English and a native English speaker) talking about series, movies and other current issues.

A really useful series I think, as they talk about things we´ve all seen or at least know about and because the mistakes that the student does and the teacher corrects are very common mistakes, that we all have doubts about.

Let´s starts with Family Guy!

Facebook in real life.

Hi everyone!

We all know what Facebook is, we all use facebook, in our own personal way, be it actively posting photos and making comments on our friends' walls or passively just prying into (fisgonear) other people affairs. We all assume this is "normal" as Facebook is in our dayly life but if we step outside and take a look at it from the distance, it may result a little weird.

These two Facebook parodies show how weird would our Facebook behaviour be in real life.

#Foodforthought.

- We sat next to each other in Maths, we didn´t get on, remember?

- You want to skip this step?
¿Quieres saltarte este paso?

- How about if we say...?
¿Qué te parece si decimos...?

- What are you looking for? Friendship, dating, wathever you can get?

- Wicked!
 Cool, good, great.

Somewhere only we know.

Qué tengáis un finde genial, si es posible, somewhere only you both now.

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old (to get old: hacerse mayor) and I need something to rely on (confiar)
So tell me when you're gonna let me in (dejar entrar -en sentido figurado-).
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

came across (encontrarse con algo/alguien) a fallen tree
I felt the branches (ramas) of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and i need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don't we go
talk about it somewhere only we know
this could be the end of everything
so why don't we go
somewhere only we know

Super bowl!

Enjoy your weekend!

- Hey! Watch out "Mr Grab-Your-Pants"! i don´t like being carrying around like that: Hey! Ten cuidado! No me gusta que me lleven así!

- Heeey! What the heck are you?: ¿Qué diablos eres?

- Oh no! You are not! Not in a miracle, buddie!: De eso nada, ni de broma lo eres colega!

- Yeah, newsflash, thanks!: noticia/bomba de última hora.

- Somebody didn´t take their shoes off: Alguien no se quito los zapatos.

- You are a lemon-head: bobo (slang).

- I shape like this so it´s easy to throw me: Tengo esta forma para que sea más facil lanzarme.

- Hey handball, do you have any money? Cos I want my quarter-back (Posición de jugador de football americano).
Pero aquí lo que quiere decir es "I want my quarter back" (quiero que me devuelvas mi cuarta parte).

- Can you blow bubbles with your spit?: ¿Puedes hacer pompas con saliva?

- What´s going on here? I´m the start of the superbowl and this is how I get treated?: ¿Que está pasando aquí?

- Superbowl (bowl de comida), is that for a really big salad?

My blackberry is not working!

Hi everyone!

I bet you´ve been missing videos from Funny English! I also bet you´ve missed your Blackberrys on those three horrible days, my condolences to the victims.

Here you have a video from BBC about the issue. It´s a funny video. The jokes are based on puns/ play on words (juegos de palabras) and double meanings so listen carefully. Enjoy it!

-It´s completely frozen: está totalmente colgada.
Frozen as a slang is also described as "the inability to articulate words, phrases,... as a result of an extreme state of intoxication from too much alcohol consumption or beacuse of the consequent hangover (resaca)".

- It might be well worth waiting a couple of weeks: Igual te merece la pena esperar un par de semanas.

- Can you give me a date (fecha/ dátil)?

I tried to put my dongle in it and it won´t fit. (Joking about Apple and it tendency to incompatibility with other operating systems).
Dongle: dispósitivo de seguridad para software.

- Well, I don´t know much about these things: Bueno, yo no sé mucho de estas cosas.

-Let me try a bootleg.
Bootleg:
- patada.
- a pirate copy of something.

-That is crashed!
Crash:
- roto, estrellado (adjetivo).
- (applied to a computer or program.) to shut down, cease to work.

- Anything else I can help you with?

- Yes, my grandson birthday is due, you see (Sí, es el cumpleaños de mi nieto dentro de poco, ¿sabe?) He already has an apple and a blackberry.

- Well, I do, I have an special offer on this. The kids seems to like it: Egg box (X-box) 3.60 (pounds)
